To understand a country's car industry, one would have to put together many factors. Some are cultural, other are geographical, all the way to economy status of the country.

Consumer oriented, hard working and wealthy, US is also a big country where most people don't live near their work. All these factors have influenced and shaped its car industry.

Although they have changed over the past few decades, US cars are still spacious, comfortable and luxurious although they often lack a refinment of European cars and Asian attention to details.

US cars can be divided into three broad categories: family cars, everyday cars and pimped cars.
But, as the time passes, people's demands change and grow and differences between car manufacturers are becoming smaller.
Terms like fuel economy and reliability are becoming a decisive factors when purchasing a car.

With three major car companies (GM, Ford and Chrysler) and many subdivisions (Jeep, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Pontiac, Buick, Hummer etc), US has a lot to offer in any segment of car industry.
