Skoda - basic company info and current lineup
Skoda is a Czech Republic auto manufacturer.
Despite its over a century long history, the Skoda progress really started when it became a part of Volkswagen Group in 1991.
First Skoda origins date back to 19th century, with 1924 being the year when Mlada Boleslav factory joined Skoda Works - name was born. Communist years were exactly such - poverty evenly spread over models. The only interesting model was Rapid which was nicknamed "poor man's Porsche". 1987 Favorit model announced what followed - Skoda became a Volkswagen subsidiary 4 years later.
VW is taking good care of its youngest child - in early days, slightly older engines were built into Skodas, but that's no longer practice. Latest Skoda models are superior to its VW brothers. Skodas are constantly beating VW models in latest comparison tests. The only Skoda's downside is its logo. However, because of its numerous qualities, people across the Europe have embraced Skoda cars - no wonder Germany is Skoda's largest market.
