That's exactly what Subaru people did with Forester's third generation - carefully analized and implemented numerous but discrete changes.Slightly bigger than its predecessor, it has a higher clearance as well, and more storage space.
Dashboard is redesigned and it's much more pleasant now.However, biggest changes are made under the hood - torque distribution is improved which made a city drive way more enjoyable. As a plus, fuel consumption has dropped significantly (newly designed combustion chamber is to blame for that).
